So my brother flew in from the States with a Steam Deck in his luggage. He'd used it to keep himself occupied on the flight over. All I can say after having a play with it is Wow!!

Okay ... that should probably be WOW!!!

This thing is a powerhouse and a retro gaming monster. It's nowhere near as heavy as I thought it would be given the size of it and the controls are superb.

It's a real shame these things aren't available in New Zealand. Not that I could afford one or the wife would let me buy one for that matter!!

I absolutely love my Steam Deck but the hole it leaves in your bank account is hard to ignore!

In my experience it runs games better than  all windows based laptops despite being based on Linux with Proton.

Although for retro gaming I would probably go for something much smaller and lighter (and cheaper)

I got one back in October when they finally freed up the pre-orders, and basically haven't put it down since.

It's a gaming powerhouse, and handles emulation beautifully - all the way up to switch (apparently  ;) ), I've also got Game Pass on it, and that runs really well too . The only reservation I had was the price, although I used PayPal credit, so spread the cost ver a few months.

The major benefit over other portable consoles is the support levels, as it's got such a large user base, it's easy to find guides on basically anything you'll ever need. Setting up emulators is basically an hour to get every console set up.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

I don't know. That big screen looks pretty hard to beat!! As I said, New Zealand is not on the distribution list so all a moot point. Even though Gabe Newell is living here. WTF right??
