Scans Not Being Credited Properly

I'm over reading huge posts rehashing the same stuff over and over. I've explained the issues around crediting files (site rebuilds etc) and am making an effort to work through what I can in this regard.

I'd rather work to keep the site moving forward than have to read massive page sized missives and try and work out if there's anything new in them worth replying to.

Quote from: slider1983I agree to a point however in your case you are free to upload anything in your name yourself. Others do not have that authority so you must understand why me stumbling on Bishop of Battle saying thank you to Kiwi for scans I did is a little frustrating as it would anyone else who scans. At the end of the day I raise this concern only because everyone has lodged in my head the importance of crediting and not stealing. If that isn't a problem now because it doesn't directly affect you due to having control over your own uploads then not sure what to say. Maybe Retro Mags is more lax about that? Not sure, you have more experience of that website than I do.

I never intended to be rude or not giving credits to the ones that deserve it or have done a scan of the respective magazine I downloaded. You all do a fantastic job concerning scanning and I thank you from my heart. I'm very greatful for being allowed to download anything in fact. Most of the comments are left blank at the download site, so after awhile commenting, I thought it was a standard procedure not leaving any. And now I see it could be even dangerous for the existence of this site to thank the wrong person.

But let us all remember something very important: Kiwi is the boss around here! Without kissing somebody's behind, I'd say we all owe him some extra respect, no matter whom's been doing this and that.

I'm 56 and been around at sites like Underground Gamer and Bitgamer, where you had to get a special invitation to come aboard. Some of the complaints I hear at this place would never been tolerated against admins or moderators. So please, discuss but do it like gentlemen. I thank you all for your efforts!

Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong.  You thanked Kiwi for a scan that Kiwi created.  The other person who accused you of thanking the wrong person was mistaken - although he HAD scanned that same issue, his scan was never made available to download here.  Again, the version available here is 100% Kiwi.

You're correct about one thing, though.  People rarely say thanks.  That's not a phenomenon exclusive to OGM - I only get a handful of thanks for every upload at Retromags and ZERO thanks at the Internet Archive.  But don't let one person's complaints scare you away from leaving a kind word for a scanner every now and then if you feel like it, because it IS appreciated.

Yeah I very much appreciate any thanks or feedback I get on scans. They are rare but always appreciated!

Perhaps some day there'll be a button alongside the magazine download, to give a little extra appreciation in the form of a few bucks.  ;)

There are a few in the mag scanning community that go that route, having their own Patreon.  Most of us aren't expecting to be paid, though, and would be uncomfortable with the moral implications of "selling" our work.  I'd rather see any donation money go towards hosting fees to keep this site and its mags online for as long as possible.
